FAQs

  • What grade levels are accepted into the program?

    • 9th -12th grade​

  • What is the selection process?

    • Every year interested applicants must fill and submit an application and supporting documents. Once the deadline for the application arrives, there is an interview and screening process.  Following the interviews selections are made and applicants are notified.​

  • Are Lamplighters and Inductees required to pay dues?

    • Yes. ​

  • How often are dues paid?

    • They are spread out over 4 payments divided equally each quarter. You may pay the full balance ahead of a schedule payment if you choose.​

  • Is Lamplighters a non-profit?

    • Yes. Our non-profit information is attached here. ​

  • Is there any participation required from parents?

    • Parents are asked to help with fundraising opportunities for the boys all year round.  There are multiple ways for parents to help with the program.​

  • What does the Houston Omega Lamplighters help the kids with?

    • Our program focuses on helping the young men build the best version of themselves. Our "Your Brand" Workshop truly focuses on each Lamplighter, highlighting their best qualities and areas of ​of improvement. Our program has also been instrumental in helping our young men find their voice. Self discipline is another main focus that prepare our guys for many obstacles that they may face.  We mentor so many young men who are born leaders that need some encouragement with their presence when speaking.  By the time they graduate our program many are able to engage an audience like never before. We focus on college readiness by offering scholarship opportunities, tutoring, and an Annual College Tour across states.

  • Are there mandatory meetings?

    • Yes. We meet every 1st and 3rd Sunday throughout the Lamplighter year and more regularly during the workshops.​

  • Do the mentors help the young men outside of the program?

    • Yes.  We have dedicated mentors that stay in constant contact with the Lamplighters.  They are there to help cheer them on, support them in their school activities, and give them encouragement on tough days. ​
